SO36
SO36 is a Berlin institution. Named after the old postal code for Kreuzberg, this venue has stood for everything that defines Berlin subculture since the late 1970s: punk, DIY, queer culture, and an uncompromising stance against the mainstream. Bands like Einstuerzende Neubauten and Iggy Pop have graced its stage, and the spirit of those wild years remains palpable to this day.
The programme is deliberately diverse. From punk rock concerts to the legendary queer party series Gayhane (featuring oriental music), political events, and ska nights, the offerings constantly rotate. This mixture makes SO36 one of the few places in Berlin that truly unites all scenes under one roof. The atmosphere is raw, sweaty, and authentic - exactly how a good live venue should be.
Opening hours vary considerably depending on the event. Concerts often begin around 20:00 or 21:00, while parties start later. Entry ranges between 5 and 20 euros depending on the event. The location sits directly on the bustling Oranienstrasse, surrounded by bars and corner shops. Nearest U-Bahn: Kottbusser Tor (U1/U8). Check the programme on the website in advance, as there are no fixed weekly schedules.
