Tresor
Tresor is one of the founding locations of the Berlin techno movement. Originally opened in 1991 in a former vault of the Wertheim department stores, the club relocated in 2007 to its current home in the Kraftwerk on Kopenicker Strasse. The new location preserves the raw, industrial character of the original: the basement floor with its thick concrete walls and ear-splitting sound system remains the centrepiece, delivering uncompromising, hard techno.
The upper area, known as Globus, offers a more spacious feel. Alongside techno, more experimental electronic sounds are played here, and the atmosphere is less intense than in the basement. Live performances and art exhibitions take place regularly - Tresor explicitly sees itself as a cultural institution, not merely a dance floor.
The club opens on Fridays and Saturdays from 23:00 and typically runs until late morning. Entry ranges between 12 and 18 euros. As with most Berlin clubs, cash only is the rule. The door policy is noticeably more relaxed than at nearby Berghain, but a certain club-readiness is still expected. Tresor is best reached via the U-Bahn station Heinrich-Heine-Strasse or the S-Bahn station Ostbahnhof.
