Linienstrasse
Brothels · Dortmund
Linienstrasse in Dortmund's Nordstadt is one of the oldest and most well-known red-light districts in Germany. Since 1904, sixteen brothel houses have lined this street, with between 160 and 200 sex workers practicing their profession daily. The street is accessible around the clock and operates on the classic Laufhaus principle: walk through the buildings, look around, and knock on a door if interested.
The atmosphere is sober and functional. The buildings are plain, the rooms utilitarian. Anyone expecting an upscale ambiance or wellness facilities is in the wrong place. Linienstrasse is a place of directness — short paths, clear terms, fair prices. The women work independently and negotiate their own conditions; there is no central reception or booking desk.
The Nordstadt location is urban and rough but not unsafe. First-time visitors should expect an unvarnished experience and bring cash. Linienstrasse is not a hidden gem but a fixed part of Dortmund's city history — well over a hundred years of continuous operation speaks for itself.
