Mamita

Mamita brings Latin American rhythm to the heart of Freiburg's old town. The bar runs dedicated dance nights up to five times a week, covering salsa, bachata, merengue, and reggaeton in rotation. For a mid-sized German city, this level of commitment to Latin dance culture is unusual and has turned Mamita into a genuine institution for both seasoned dancers and complete beginners who want to learn the basics in a social setting.

The space is compact but designed for movement, with enough room to spin a partner without colliding with the bar. Early in the evening, the mood is relaxed and conversational, but once the music shifts into higher gear around 23:00, the floor fills and the temperature rises. Drink prices stay low, and the menu leans toward cocktails with a Latin twist — mojitos, caipirinhas, and similar staples mixed quickly and affordably.

Mamita is particularly welcoming to newcomers. Several of the weekly nights include informal dance instruction early in the evening before the open floor takes over. The crowd is diverse in both age and background, united by an enthusiasm for the music and the movement. Located in the Altstadt, the bar is walkable from all central tram stops. No cover charge on most nights. Cash preferred.
