Schlappen
Schlappen is the beating heart of the Bermudadreieck and one of the longest-running student pubs in Freiburg. Situated right at the start of Loewenstrasse, it has served generations of university students who treat it as a second living room. The interior is exactly what you would expect from a proper Studentenkneipe: wooden tables darkened by decades of spilled beer, walls plastered with stickers and posters, and a crowd that ranges from first-semester freshmen to returning alumni who never outgrew the place.
What sets Schlappen apart from the average pub is its remarkable spirits collection. The bar stocks an unusually deep range of whiskies and absinthes, making it a genuine destination for anyone interested in more than just the standard Rothaus Pils. Prices remain firmly student-friendly — a beer costs well under four euros, and even the rarer spirits are served at reasonable markups. The atmosphere is loud, warm, and unpretentious, with conversations flowing easily between strangers.
Schlappen fills up quickly after 21:00 on most evenings and stays busy until the early hours. There is no cover charge and no dress code. The outdoor seating on Loewenstrasse is prime territory during the warmer months and disappears fast. Cash is the safest payment method, though cards are accepted. The nearest tram stop is Bertoldsbrunnen, a two-minute walk away.
