Kaiserkeller

Bars & Clubs · Hamburg

The Kaiserkeller is more than a club — it is a piece of music history. Located in the basement of Grosse Freiheit 36, it became the stage for a then-unknown band from Liverpool in 1960: the Beatles. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and their bandmates played marathon night-time sets here, sharpening the sound that would change the world. That history is palpable in every corner of the room.

Today the Kaiserkeller presents a varied program of live concerts, DJ nights, and themed parties. The basement character has been preserved — low ceilings, cozy half-darkness, and an intimate atmosphere that large halls simply cannot replicate. Open Monday through Saturday, the programming varies significantly from night to night.

Prices for both entry and drinks are moderate and in line with the St. Pauli standard. For Beatles fans, the Kaiserkeller is an obligatory visit, but even without any interest in the history, a night here holds its own — the basement atmosphere and rotating acts make it a solid destination away from the louder Reeperbahn thoroughfare.
