Cubiculum
Bars & Clubs · Trier
Cubiculum on Hosenstraße is a Trier institution. Since the 1950s, this cellar vault has housed a bar that over the decades has become home to students, artists, and night owls. The name — Latin for "small room" — fits perfectly: you descend a staircase and find yourself in an intimate, low-ceilinged vault that creates an atmosphere entirely its own.
The furnishings are deliberately simple. Candlelight, old stone walls, and plain wooden furniture produce an ambiance that sits somewhere between a medieval wine cellar and a student underground pub. Drinks are cheap and the menu uncomplicated. Small concerts, readings, and DJ sets take place regularly, filling the space with culture and life.
Cubiculum is not a bar for a polished evening out — it is a place for people who value authenticity over aesthetics. The regulars form a tight-knit community, but newcomers are received openly. Anyone wanting to discover the alternative side of Trier should start here.
